“If adventures will not befall a young lady in her own village, she must seek them abroad” – Jane Austen
A better quote couldn’t be found for our Curator Kim, who fell in love with travel at the young age of 16 when she was an exchange student living with a host family in Salzburg, Austria. Travel became about the new experiences, the food, the people and eventually, the wine!
Kim has worked in the travel industry since she returned from her year abroad in various capacities. She started as a part-time assistant for a travel agent then worked for the cruise industry for years until she purchased her own agency 15 years ago. Other than introducing clients to world travel, one of Kim’s most significant industry accomplishments is ascertaining her International Airlines Travel Agent Network accreditation which requires recommendations from the travel trade, achieving financial benchmarks, and much documentation.
Kim wants her clients to experience the world and different cultures with eyes wide open to new adventures. Sometimes, the most embarrassing moments are among the most memorable. Kim learned that first-hand in an Italian train station when she discovered that when you pay for the use of a toilet in Europe, your payment does not give you much time before the door swings open! In contrast, some experiences are pure magic, like the perfectly clear-blue sky Kim experienced one Christmas morning atop The Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain peak.
